A daytime visit and RV sites and tent camping at Oregon’s state parks will be free Saturday during the 13th annual State Parks Day.
Day-use fees also will be waived at 26 parks where day passes are required, and visitors to campgrounds will pay nothing to rent full hookup (sewer, electricity and water), electrical hookup (electricity and water) and tent sites. Full rates, however, will be charged for yurts, cabins, horse camps and group areas, parks officials say.
Campsite reservations may be made online or by calling Reservations Northwest (1-800-452-5687). The usual $8 reservations fee will be charged.
At Brookings’ Harris Beach State Park, popular with Southern Oregon residents, visitors will have the chance to meet the pioneer rancher for whom the park is named during a noon hour living history presentation featuring period displays, games and free hot dogs.
Camper appreciation barbecue feasts will highlight the day at Stewart State Recreation Area 35 miles northeast of Medford.
Details are at www.oregonstateparks.org.
Oregon state park camping reservations and changes to existing reservations will be unavailable from 5 p.m. March 31 through 8 a.m. April 14. The temporary closure will affect telephone and online reservations while the 1995-era reservation system is upgraded.
Park campgrounds will remain open during the reservation blackout, with campsites available on a first-come basis. Previous reservations will remain valid. For information, call 800-551-6949, or look online at oregonstateparks.org.
