KOA to Sell Dometic Product Line in Campground Stores

Dometic, a leading supplier of “comfort” products for the RV and marine industries, is partnering with Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) to provide a complete line of RV and camping products at KOA campground locations across North America, according to a written announcement from KOA.

“Our goal was to become more relevant to camping customers,” said Mark Minatel, vice president of after markets for Dometic. “We wanted to be where the campers are, so of course we came to KOA.”

Soon, KOA campers will be able to find displays of Dometic products carrying the familiar yellow KOA brand in selected KOA campground locations. While items available will vary by location, Dometic products for sale to campers will include RV cleaner, gray-water treatment, odor absorber, air fresheners, holding-tank treatments, toilet-bowl cleaners, toilet tissue and moist towelettes.

Small appliances will also be available carrying both the KOA and Dometic brands, including a portable electric cooler/heater, a portable ice maker and a six-bottle wine chiller.

“We are also planning to test a Dometic vending machine at several KOA locations that will serve as an extension of the KOA convenience store,” said KOA Vice President of Brand Development Lorne Armer. The vending machines will hold camper necessities such as toilet tissue, sundries and personal hygiene products that would be available via the vending machine even when the regular KOA store is closed for the evening.

“We are also developing several product displays that will work inside a variety of store sizes,” Minatel said. “We think linking these two giant brands is a great way to provide superior products directly to campers.”

Lazydays RV and Kampgrounds of America Inc. have reached agreement on the sale of the Lazydays RV Campground in Tucson, Ariz., to KOA.

Lazydays/KOA Campground

The campground, located at 5151 S. Country Club Road in Tucson, will now be known as the Tucson/Lazydays KOA Campground. It will join 486 other locations in the KOA system throughout North America.

Lazydays RV CEO Tim Sheehan said the agreement with KOA includes a marketing agreement that allows the two iconic outdoor industry brands to work together to promote both the campground and Lazydays RV, which will continue to operate a Lazydays RV dealership and service center at the Tucson site.

The agreement on the Tucson property will be finalized in early November, after Kampgrounds of America Inc. completes the due diligence process at the campground.

California RV ShowThe RV Industry Association announced that Kampgrounds of America will sponsor the mock campground entrance at the 61st Annual California RV Show and that KOA CEO Jim Rogers will be a featured speaker at the event.

The mock campground was very popular with attendees and guests after being unveiled as the main entry point at last year’s show.  Show attendees walk through the exhibit to see RVs in a campground setting before moving on to the main exhibition areas.

This year’s mock campground will cover 15,000 square feet of exhibit space and feature ten RV products, including two Fleetwood Type A motorhomes, two Tiffin Type A motorhomes, a Winnebago Type A motorhome, a Thor Type A motorhome, two Columbia Northwest folding camping trailers, and a Pleasure-Way Type B motorhome.

KOA will also have one of its deluxe cabins on display for attendees to visit. The 40-foot unit built by Cavco features an upstairs sleeping loft, flat screen TVs, queen bed suite, full bath and full kitchen. KOA staff will be on hand to answer questions and help make reservations.

“We are delighted to be part of the California RV Show,” said Scott Corey, owner of the Ventura Ranch KOA. “Our cabins and teepees have been a huge hit with campers at our campground. The Deluxe Cabin that will be on display is a great example of ‘glamping.’ Attendees will see that they can enjoy a great outdoor vacation even if they don’t own an RV and be introduced to the RV and camping lifestyle.”

KOA CEO Jim Rogers will be at the show Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. in the seminar tent to review the exciting things KOA is doing nationwide, discuss his appearance on the popular CBS program Undercover Boss, and meet and greet show attendees.

The 61st Annual California RV Show will take place at The Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., from Oct. 11 to 20. For more information visit www.TheBestRVShow.com
