ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about an Anchorage recreational-vehicle rental business that’s earned a grade of F from the bureau.
According to the BBB, B&B RV Rental on the Old Seward Highway near Midtown has racked up numerous complaints over the past few years, all pointing to a troubling pattern of leaving customers with nothing to show for their money.
“Since July 2008, the Better Business Bureau has received over 300 inquiries and 12 complaints about B&B RV Rental,” said BBB spokesperson Tara Sims.
But it’s not the number of complaints that has the Bureau sounding the alarm.
“The key is that the complaints show a pattern of the same type of issues occurring over and over again,” Sims said.
Sims says the problems start when customers first arrive at B&B to pick up an RV.
“The RV is broken, or when they arrive to pick up the pre-booked RV, it’s not available,” Sims said.

Be wary that some websites offering you information on camping and RV reservations may not deliver as promised.

One example is the Ultimate RV Travel Tool website (ultimatervcamping.com also internetcamping.com).

According to the Better Business Bureau, they are getting complaints from customers who say they are signing up for the free trial offer advertised on the site, but are then ending up having to pay. Others report that the Washington-based company does not have the connections and discounts as promised.

KATU.com called the owner of the Ultimate RV Travel Tool for comment and received a call back saying they did not know what we were talking about.

So how can you stay safe? Here are tips from the Better Business Bureau:

  • Beware of companies that claim to be affiliated with big name resorts or campsites. Get proof.
  • Look out for fake testimonials.
  • Read all the fine print carefully before clicking on a free offer.
  • Don’t fall for limited time offers.
