Last-minute travelers to Yellowstone National Park can thank the heavy early-spring snowfall for a wide choice of campsites now. The lingering snow in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding area has resulted in a slow start to the camping season, higher-than-normal cancellations and plenty of availability.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts, operator of five Yellowstone campgrounds offering advance reservations, reports drops in both occupancy and reservations.

“The good news is recent warm temperatures and generally drier weather patterns have resulted in snow-free and dry campgrounds while contributing to green meadows, a rush of wildflowers and great wildlife viewing opportunities,” said Rick Hoeninghausen, director of sales and marketing for Xanterra.

Fishing Bridge RV Park is designed for hard-sided units only with a maximum length of 40 feet. Rates at Fishing Bridge RV Park are $28 per night for campsites without electric hook-ups and $38 per night for campsites with electric hook-ups. All Fishing Bridge RV sites include water and sewer hookups. Rates are $20 per night for the other campgrounds.

Campsites can be reserved online at or by calling toll-free 1-866-GEYSERLAND (1-866-439-7375) or 1-307-344-7311.

National Park Service regulations require camping equipment to fit in designated sites. When making a reservation, online visitors must book a site that will accommodate their camping equipment.

RVers must book a campsite that will accommodate the total combined length of their vehicle and camping equipment. Campers must be prepared to give the size of their RV and any tow or towed vehicle separately.
