>On a hillside in the southern part of Stark County, a nomadic group of people lives together in perfect harmony.

In 17 trailers, motor homes and campers of all sizes, they brave wind, rain, mud and snow. Bear Creek, a Kampgrounds of America campsite, is their permanent yet temporary home. This time of year, it’s occupied mostly by men and women who follow jobs around the country.

Some stay for days; others for months.

They are skilled professional migrant workers.

“Kind of like a little band of gypsies,” Karen Johnston said with a Southern drawl.

>WASHINGTON — The government warned owners of about 4.6 million recalled Ford vehicles to bring their cars and trucks immediately to dealerships to disconnect cruise-control switch systems that have been linked to engine fires.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued the consumer advisory Thursday to owners of certain unrepaired Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, vans and passenger cars who have not yet responded to past recalls.
The recalls have vexed the Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker, affecting its popular F-Series pickup trucks, prompting hundreds of complaints and dozens of lawsuits over engine fires. Three deaths have been tied to the fires, and Ford has struggled to produce enough parts to fix the problem.

>Campers can go back into tens of thousands of acres of the Cleveland National Forest starting today, but the cost of pitching a tent at many spots in the forest is likely to increase by 20 percent or more in coming months.

In separate actions yesterday, the U.S. Forest Service lifted most of the access restrictions in place since the October wildfires and officials said campground fees were not covering the cost of maintaining the facilities.

“Opening up the forest again is a great thing, especially since there has been some rainfall so it should be beginning to restore itself,” said Richard Miller, chairman of the San Diego chapter of the Sierra Club.

Forest officials recommended raising the fees at several campgrounds across the 438,000-acre forest by $2 to $20 a night, depending on the capacity and location of the sites.
