>Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management officials announced that most state beaches will open daily starting Memorial Day weekend. They operate from 9 am to 6 pm.
Two exceptions are World War Two Memorial State Park in Woonsocket and the Burlington picnic area and campground in Charlestown. Those facilities will be open only on the weekends until June 17th. After that, they�ll be open daily until Labor Day.

>A campground at Natural Bridges National Monument has been closed because of bubonic plague detected among field mice and chipmunks.
Plague also has been found this spring in rodent populations at Mesa Verde National Park and Colorado National Monument.
National Park Service officials said there never has been a reported human case of bubonic plague originating from the parks or national monuments. Full Story…

>Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Weaver was helping a stranded motorist on southbound Interstate 275 when he heard a loud boom about 11 a.m. Sunday.
He looked across to the northbound lanes and saw a motor home with a blown right-front tire inching toward the shoulder, just north of the Busch Boulevard exit. Sparks spun from the rim. Flames engulfed the tire by the time the driver, Mac McLaughlin, stopped the motor home. Full Story…
