>Fleetwood RV today announced it will offer its
patent-pending SpacePlus(TM) full-wall slide technology in the 2006 Discovery,
Excursion and Providence Class A diesel motor home lines.
The new models will be launched to dealers at the 43rd Annual RVIA
tradeshow in Louisville, KY. First introduced on the 2005 Pace Arrow, the
full-wall slide system features a 27-foot slide-out wall, providing over 390
square feet of open living space. Fleetwood collaborated closely with
Freightliner Custom Chassis to significantly lower the engine and eliminate
the typical step-up around the master bed, creating a rear living space with a
flat floor, seven-foot ceilings and an unprecedented level of openness
throughout the coach.
The 2006 Discovery, Excursion and Providence models also feature
additional exterior color choices with coordinating interior options and large
E-Z Store exterior compartment doors which extend with the slide-outs. Each
unit emphasizes comfort with more options including water heaters with
16-gallon output capability, sofa sleeper with air mattress, automatic-start
generators, and 14-cubic-foot refrigerators.
>Ed Gallup’s RVT-100 class at Sacramento City College is the only forum of its kind in Northern California where RV owners or prospective owners can learn in detail how to select, operate and maintain their vehicles.
“Most people never even use their VCR to its potential because they don’t know how,” Gallup points out. “Just think about walking up to something as big and strange as an RV: There’s no way you can remember everything the salesman tells you – and believe me, they don’t begin to tell you everything.”
Gallup’s curriculum aims to create informed consumers by teaching RV owners how their units work so they can maximize enjoyment and minimize preventable problems. Classroom sessions cover basics such as RV types, tow vehicles, weight calculations and safe operating procedures. Students also jump into their vehicles’ complicated innards with instruction in practical skills such as troubleshooting and fixing the electrical, waste, water, propane, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. >Terry Cooper, lead instructor with Texas State Technical College’s RV maintenance program, is slated to appear tonight on the Do It Yourself Network’s “Classic Rides.” The series features host Kevin Tetz, who restores a variety of vehicles with the help of experts. During the two episodes featuring Cooper, Metz and company resurrect a vintage 1970 model Airstream trailer.
The 51-year-old Cooper, who has worked on RVs since he was a teen, said he was attending an RV dealer convention a few months ago when he was invited to attend a “Classic Rides” taping in Knoxville, Tenn.
Cooper said when he first showed up at the set, he thought show producers would just turn to him for advice off camera and he wouldn’t be in the show. But after listening to Cooper for a few minutes, producers realized restoring the vehicle would be a serious undertaking, he said.
As Cooper described the vehicle’s woes and how to fix them to show producers, they were so impressed that they offered him some face time in front of the camera. Full Story…
